The Economist, this week, describe a new phenomenon of Chinese retirees moving south to Sanya, China’s Florida. Chinese society is evolving and neither the hukou (household registration), not the filial tradition of caring for older parents is holding the retirees from looking for 6 months or more of sun like the American did in the 50’s and 60’s. And the newcomers are far from being the new rich, half of them earn the average income or less.
